Manic Miner on the MSX

Manic Miner on the MSX

It’s just occurred to me that I haven’t posted anything on this site for over a year! I’ve been busy, okay?!!

So here’s some random things I’ve done, picked up, fixed or broken over the past year.

Picked up an awesome stash of Philips CDi things

The Death of Waynetta

Yes, Waynetta has gone to the great mini fridge shelf in the sky. She stopped cooling things. I discovered the capacitors were leaking, so I replaced them. Except, I put them in the wrong holes and she blew up. No matter, I ordered a new power board, but accidentally touched it against a piece of metal, and that blew up.

I took that as a sign. Farewell Waynetta!

I picked up a Commodore 64!

This was hard for me, being an Atari man, but I finally got one so I could reminisce about all the games I used to play on my cousin’s machine many moons ago.

Magnavox Odyssey 2001

This has been languishing on the shelf for nearly 2 years! I could never get hold of a power supply for it. So I finally got a generic power supply and hardwired it to the board. The picture needs some work, but it lives!

Philips Discoverer TV

I love this TV, but it won’t switch on any more! I’ve recapped the entire board – which was scary as hell with all those thousands of volts flying around. It switched on intermittently, but now it completely refuses to co-operate. It tries, but fails.

If anyone has any tips please let me know!

Free Gamecube Games!

Somebody left these outside of their house. Free to a good home. All working!

A broken Commodore 64

It worked a little bit, very briefly. Since then, nothing. I’ve replaced the power socket and the switch, but something somewhere is shorting and dragging the voltage right down. No idea what to do with it.

Toshiba MSX HX-10

Hello Tosh, got a Toshiba? Why yes, yes I have. Always wanted one of these. Absolute bargain ‘cos it had a few sticky keys. Doesn’t bother me!

Upgraded my ZX81 to 16K

ZX81 Pacman!

And Finally…

We held a charity retrogaming event at work to raise money for the homeless. Here’s my humble little contribution:

Retrogaming-tastic!
Retrogaming-tastic!

Original Atari 800XL running Super Breakout. Atari 2600 Junior running Space Invaders. Playstation Classic running Tekken 3. Plus the Tivoo making an appearance playing lots of retrogaming related animations!

To sum up

I spent way too much money this year, but I raised some for a good cause too. Yin and Yang and all that!
